There is currently an amber alert toxic algae warning in place for the Hutt River at Taita Rock due to moderate amounts of toxic algae and a few detached mats starting to be observed.
We recommend you exercise caution when swimming, especially if you have young children that may put things in their mouth.
Keep dogs on leads and away from the river’s edge. Most importantly do not let them scavenge anything from the riverbanks.
Toxic algae represents a very real risk to human and animal health.
