Monitoring of Wakapuaka at Paremata Flats has found more than 50% coverage of cyanobacteria mats. This means it is in the Red Alert Level.
All people, dogs and stock should stay out of the river and be vigilant on other parts of the river that are not monitored. Even if there is not cyanobacteria present, mats can detach and float downstream.
