Good news, recent rainfall has flushed toxic algae out of most rivers to below guideline levels. Please still take care in the Waikanae River (especially around Jim Cooke Park) and the Otaki River, where toxic algae levels are still around 20% cover.
Remember the best thing you can do to stay safe is to know what toxic algae looks like so you can avoid it. Check out our video at www.gw.govt.nz/safeswim to see what to look out for.
