Tokoroa

Tokoroa is midway between Hamilton and Taupō on State Highway One. It has one monitoring site, on Billah Street.

Tokoroa’s one active residential PM10 and PM2.5 monitoring station, at the Billah Street Reserve, was established in March 2001. PM10 and PM2.5 are measured using a Teledyne API T640x along with collection of meteorological data.

PM10 exceedances occur frequently during winter in Tokoroa. The Tokoroa airshed is currently classified as polluted under the National Environmental Standards. From 1 September 2016 Tokoroa must have no more than three PM10 exceedance per 12 month period and from 1 September 2020 must have no more than one exceedance per 12 month period. The main source of poor air quality during winter is home heating using wood.
