Please be aware that exposed mats of potentially toxic benthic cyanobacteria have been found at this site throughout the 2024-2025 summer monitoring season and may still be present.
Cyanobacteria can produce toxins that are dangerous to humans and animals. The conditions that trigger toxin production are not well understood, so it is safest to assume all cyanobacteria mats are toxic and avoid contact with them. These toxins can cause serious illness if swallowed, even in small amounts, and dogs are particularly susceptible as they can be attracted to the musty smell of cyanobacteria.
