Patea River at boat ramp

Patea (Mana Bay) boat ramp is situated some 45 km downstream of the Patea Hydro Electric Plant (HEP) dam and 300 metres upstream of the river mouth.

Please note that water quality can change depending on weather. Don't swim if the water is murky or smells unpleasant. Taranaki Regional Council advises not to swim within three days of heavy or prolonged rainfall, even at sites that usually have good water quality.

The monitoring site is situated some 45 km downstream of the Manawa Energy Pātea hydroelectric power (HEP) dam, and 300 m upstream of the river mouth. Flows in the lower river are regulated by the operation of the HEP station. There are consented treated wastewater discharges from dairy ponds in the catchment upstream of the site, and the consented Patea Wastewater Treatment Plant discharges 700 m upstream of the boatramp.

Boating, fishing, and walking are the main recreational activities at this site, and the boat ramp is also popular for those fishing offshore.
