Waingongoro River

The source of the Waingongoro River is spring fed. Clear, cold and fast moving, the Waingongoro begins as one of the most pristine waters in the region.

The freely draining volcanic soils, high rainfall, shallow groundwater system and gentle rolling topography make the lower extents of the Waingongoro Catchment well suited to intensive agriculture and is certainly reflected in the land use, where approximately 91% of land use is grassland for dairying.
