Roxburgh Rohe

The Roxburgh Rohe extends from the Clyde Dam to Beaumont, and covers Alexandra, Clyde and Roxburgh.

Water quality is generally good, however land use including pastoral farming, orcharding and plantation forestry are potential stressors on water quality in some places.

The rohe includes some important tributaries for the Clutha/Mata-Au, such as the Fraser River (also known as the Earnscleugh), Benger Burn, Teviot River, and Beaumont River.

Lake Roxburgh is an artificial lake created by the Roxburgh Dam on the Clutha River/Mata-Au. It extends for nearly 30 km towards the town of Alexandra.

Other reservoirs in the the rohe include Lake Onslow, formed in 1890 by the damming of the Teviot River and Dismal Swamp, and the Fraser Dam built in the Fraser River catchment in the 1930s.
