Nelson Centre/North

Nelson Centre/North comprises mainly of residential housing and includes the commercial city centre and Port Nelson area. It extends along a narrow coastal strip crossed by numerous small valleys which drain air from the hills to the sea. 

 

Nelson Centre/North is complex in geography comprising valleys and coastal flats. It includes Britannia Heights, The Brook, Atmore, Maitai, Clifton, The Wood, Trafalgar, Atawhai and Port Nelson. The common characteristic is that it has sufficient air movement created by drainage air flowing out of valleys and coastal breezes to disperse PM10 which prevents high concentrations occurring. It has one PM10 monitoring site.  The main state highway runs to the north of the monitoring site.
