Riverlands

The upper parts of the catchment are located in the dry Wither Hills that consist of highly erodible loess deposits. In the lower catchment, streams have been straightened, flowing through two of the largest industrial areas of the region. The catchment drains into the Wairau Lagoon, which is of great significance to local iwi and has important ecological values.
