Estuaries

The Marlborough region has a diverse and complex coastline, stretching from Tasman Bay and D’Urville Island in the west, around the ancient sunken river valleys of the Marlborough Sounds, and out to the open Pacific Ocean in the east.

The estuaries of Marlborough are equally as diverse as the region, ranging from near pristine estuaries at Whangarae Bay and Rangitoto ki te Tonga/ D’Urville Island, a myriad of sites in the Sounds, and the large windswept river mouths of the East Coast such as the Wairau Lagoon.

In Marlborough, there is an estuary around every corner.
