Wainui

The Wainui River in the East Coast of the Horizons Region is one of four rivers and numerous streams in New Zealand that share the same name. This is perhaps unsurprising as Wainui is Māori for “big water”. The River itself generally flows through isolated hill country to reach the Pacific Coast, five kilometres west of Cape Turnagain. It is valued for contact recreation as well its mauri, aquatic life and riparian habitats.
