Regional Council staff have observed mats of toxic algae in the Tukituki river at Black Bridge. This algae can be on bedrock or free-floating in the water.
The Regional Council advises caution for this swim spot, and encourages users to keep an eye out for toxic algae - particularly for dogs that like to forage, and young children.
