Hamanatua
The Hamanatua Stream is located at Okitu, Wainui Beach. The total catchment area is 9km2 and more than two thirds of this area is within the Te Rimu catchment.
Hamanatua stream at Okitu has two main catchments that are located inland from the Wainui Beach and Okitu residential areas. The catchments are increasingly influenced by small holding subdivisions as the land is used more intensively.
A feature of the Hamanatua waterway is the lagoon at the coastal extremity. This lagoon is frequently used for swimming despite demonstrating high coliform levels through the Gisborne District Council’s recreational water monitoring.
