This sampling site on the Opihi River is located just on the outskirts of Fairlie and is popular for recreational activities, including swimming and fishing.
The Opihi River at Allandale is typical of a Canterbury plains hill-fed braided river and has moderate flows and a gravel river bed. The river can be accessed from both sides of the river.
