The Westhoe flow site is situated on the West Hoe stream which flows into the Orewa River.

The site was initially installed in 2003 as part of an investigation into the flow rates of first order streams, however long-term investigations of land use practices from a variety of ephemeral streams are also planned.

This particular site is representative of a native, soft bottom catchment. It is used as a reference site to assess the impact of other land uses on water quality.
