Rothesay Bay is a great spot to have a picnic, go for a swim, or relax on the beach. It is usually quieter than nearby Browns Bay, and can be accessed via Rothesay Bay Road or Masterton Road.
However, if you're not a confident swimmer, swim at a nearby patrolled beach. Please keep children from playing in the stream, as the water quality can be poor.
Stay away from the unstable cliffs at either end of the bay, and steer clear of any vessel using the boat ramp to enter or exit the water.
If you're planning on taking paddle or sail craft out, make sure you check the conditions first, especially the wind as it may be stronger than it first seems.
Ensure you wear a correctly fitted lifejacket and take all the right gear (www.adventuresmart.org.nz).
